Approximately 1,450 companies are operating in the manufacturing industry sector. Their net sales revenues (NSR) have increased by BGN 262 mln. as compared to the previous year and total BGN 1,699 mln. for 2007. 38 companies have each an NSR exceeding BGN 10 mln. The overall profit of the sector is BGN 147 mln., compared to BGN 78 mln. for the previous year, i.e. 88% growth.
For many years Zagorka AD brewery reported the highest net sales revenues. Three more companies engaged in the food and beverage industry rank in the top 10 in terms of NSR: Gradus 1 OOD, Biser Oliva AD and Ken AD. Among the top ranked companies are also Alcoa Packaging, manufacturer of plastic packaging, which ceased its activity in Bulgaria in 2008; M+S Hydraulic AD, manufacturer of hydraulic components; the armaments factory Arsenal AD – Kazanlak; the chipboard producer Gabrovnitsa AD; Energoremont - Galabovo AD and Remotex – Radnevo EAD – companies engaged in repair works and manufacturing of spare parts for the power plants of Maritsa East complex.
The total NSR earned by the top 10 companies in the region engaged in the manufacturing industry is BGN 609 mln. (the NSR of the armaments company Arsenal AD is not included) against BGN 566 mln. for the previous year, i.e. 18% growth.
The total profit of the 10 top ranked companies in the sector is BGN 76 mln. The first three places are occupied by the textile factory Katex AD – Kazanlak, Zagorka AD and Gradus 1 OOD (see the ranking on page 62). The overall profit of all companies in the sector is BGN 147 mln., compared to BGN 78 mln. for 2006, i.e. 88% annual growth.

Leading companies in the sector
