270 companies are active in the manufacture of fabricated metal products in the Stara Zagora District, their net sales revenues amounting to BGN 162 mln. The 10 most successful companies have net sales revenues of BGN 97 mln. in total. The companies in the sub-sector have earned a net profit of BGN 16 mln., which is almost twice as much as the one generated in the previous year.  
The leading position in this sub-sector, in terms of net sales revenues, is occupied by the manufacturer of metal constructions, Metalik AD. The company produces components for the thermal power plants of the Maritsa East complex, for other power stations, ore-mining and cement plants, for the shipbuilding industry, etc. The factory is part of IDA group. Another company belonging to this group and engaged in the same business activity is Dechko Kolev – IDA ET, which is ranked 3rd in the sub-sector in terms of net sales revenues.
Bulmetal OOD – Gurkovo is a major Bulgarian manufacturer of a wide range of metal packs and packaging of various types and dimensions for the food, chemical, dairy and cosmetic industries. The net sales revenues of the company, including its subsidiary Bulmetal Trading EOOD, total nearly BGN 30 mln. In 2008, the two companies invested BGN 10 mln. in new technological equipment. The modernisation of the conveyor line for aerosol pack production was completed with co-funding provided by the EU.
With its net sales revenues amounting to BGN 11 mln. the forging plant Preskov AD (a subsidiary of Zagora Holding OOD) occupies the fourth position in the ranking. Preskov AD is the only Bulgarian factory specialised in forging carbon steel parts and steel alloys.
Among the most successful companies ranks also Chahov OOD, a manufacturer of metal structures for the construction industry and articles of LT iron sheets.
