Approximately 120 companies in the region are specialised in the manufacture of electric appliances, machinery and equipment. These sub-sectors contribute net sales revenues amounting to BGN 269 mln., of which almost BGN 200 mln. is the share of the top 7 companies.
The leading European manufacturer of hydraulic motors and related accessories, M+S Hydraulic AD, reduced significantly its output volumes in 2009. Preliminary data indicates a 54% drop in sales as compared to 2008. For the first 9 months of 2009, the company reported NSR of BGN 29 mln., against BGN 64 mln. for the same period of the previous year. Despite the poor financial results for 2009, M+S Hydraulic AD managed to keep its major clients and still targets its production mainly to foreign markets. In the context of reduced production, the company’s efforts are focused on optimizing expenditures, sustaining product quality and implementing investment projects initiated in 2008.
DZU AD remains one of the companies with most employees in Stara Zagora region. It manufactures electronic and mechanical equipment, components, assembly fixtures, etc. The company provides employment for 1,000 people and plans to increase its staff in 2010. DZU AD is owned by the Hungarian company Videoton Holding, as is another subsidiary of the holding, Videoton Bulgarian Holdings EOOD (also situated in Stara Zagora). The subsidiaries jointly account for NSR of over BGN 51 mln. Both companies provide contract services to partners from the EU member states, such as Philips – Austria; Shneider divisions in Spain, France and Great Britain; Sensus – Germany; AFL – Hungary, etc. The companies manufacture a wide range of products, which in 2009 included: electrical connectors, automatic switches, ABS wire harnesses for the automobile industry, printed circuit boards and components for household appliances, etc.
Caproni AD is the Bulgarian leader in the manufacture of hydraulic gear pumps and other hydraulic components and equipment. The company’s products are well known on markets abroad, too.
Manufacture of machinery, equipment and production lines for the Food Industry is well developed within the Stara Zagora region due mainly to the activity of Hraninvest – Hranmashcomplect AD, Termohran Engineering AD and BRB Engineering OOD.
The activity of Bulteh 2000 OOD is also directly related to the Food Industry. The company is engaged in design and manufacture of ultrasonic milk analysers. The company’s products are sold and utilized in over 40 countries worldwide, a major part of the production being targeted to markets in India, China and the Arab States. Compared to foreign companies’ products, Bulteh’s analyser is much more compact and lightweight, and is considerably cheaper, whilst providing the same functionality and quality of analysis. The milk analysers offered by Bulteh are widely used in Bulgarian farms as well. The underlying principle of higher efficiency and reliability at much lower market price is employed also in the design of another device developed by Bulteh, an ecoscope for precise milk analysis. New products are currently under development intended for infra red processing and analysis of biodiesel, vegetable oils and biomass as well as other technological milk processing devices and equipment.
