Stara Zagora Community Foundation is a not-for-profit organization working for the benefit of the community in Stara Zagora. The Foundation was founded by representatives of the NGO sector, local authorities and the business community. Since its establishment in 2003, the organization has been working for the development of civil society by supporting initiatives in the local community.
The mission of the Stara Zagora Community Foundation is to provide financial and organizational support to civil initiatives that meet the current needs of the community, by encouraging philanthropy and combining the efforts of NGOs, local authorities, institutions and the business sector in Stara Zagora.
The Foundation provides assistance to businesses to implement their policy of corporate social responsibility to solve problems in the local community.
To fulfil its objectives Stara Zagora Community Foundation is striving to revive and modernize traditional philanthropy, relying on the established practices for resource mobilization within the local community. It is for that reason that the organization is trying to attract not only the business sector but also each individual contributor in order to improve the quality of life in the community.
In 2009, the organization has focused its activities on financial support for NGOs from the region. They are provided with funds in the form of grants in order to implement their ideas in support of the community.
In the past years the Stara Zagora Community Foundation has been working in several directions in different areas of public life:
Improving premises and equipment:
In kindergartens and schools;
In health-care facilities;
In social-care institutions;
Accessibility of the urban environment.
Leisure time utilization:
Construction and repair of kids’ playgrounds;
Support for sport clubs to develop mass sport;
Tourism for children raised in intuitions;
Support for disadvantaged people:
Support for children raised in institutions;
Support for low-income individuals;
Support for people with different disabilities;
Medicine, Ecology and Environmental protection:
Helping children with orthopaedic problems;
Hypotherapy for children;
Reforestation of areas devastated by fire;
Culture and historical heritage:
Support for gifted children;
Musical training for children raised in institutions;
Sponsorship of cultural events;
Protection of cultural and historical heritage;
In recognition of its activities Stara Zagora Community Foundation was awarded the Annual Award of the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation both in 2006 and 2008, in different categories. The 2009 Award was awarded for its innovative fundraising campaign “Help Children with Orthopaedic Problems” that was carried out as a tennis tournament with the involvement of Bulgarian tennis legends – the sisters Maleeva.
Stara Zagora Community Foundation is one of the founders of the Association of Community Foundations in Bulgaria and it has been a member of the Worldwide Initiative for Grantmakers Support (WINGS) since 2006.
